In 2017 East African Properties (EAP) embarked in converting its existing pasta and grains factory in to a real East development. This industrial site is located in the center of Addis Abeba and is adjacent to the Tinishu Akaki River.
I was hired directly by the Owners to be the vision developer and design manager of this project. Keeping the client’s interest, part of the project included getting feedback from the local community through design Charettes and working with a Chinese design company. I developed a design guideline, site analysis, financial planning, and architecture programming and managed the architecture and engineering team. Moreover, I advocated for an ecological approach
in the site planning by creating a green buffer along the river to be used by the future residents of this development. What was critical was to meet the target of creating 500 units and still provide a leisurely courtyard and green space for the
residents.
