In 2019 EAP decided to convert some of the land within the National Cement Factory into an eco-resort.
The oldest cement factory located in the rather drier region of Dire Dewa is known to have Acacia and Palm tree vegetation.
The owners wanted a conceptual design presentation for the City of Dire Dewa to commence the approval process of the project. I visited the region to get inspiration of the vernacular architecture; which I found to be the tent structures that are made by the Somali women of the region. The oval shaped structure is adorned by a decorative carpet in the interior
and is covered with a bamboo mat on the exterior. It is simple to construct and efficient for the dry and hot temperature of the region. This was a 2x1 meter poster printed
for a presentation. It is depicting the concept of the eco-lodges, the location of the hotel and recreational area, and the general programming and planning of the envisioned eco-resort.
